Village of Condom
Located on the banks of the River Baïse, Condom is a fortified village where Romanesque and Gothic ramparts are still visible today. Surrounded by greenery, you will have the opportunity to admire the typical landscapes of Gascony, with its mix of fields and vineyards, from the panoramic view offered by this charming village, which bears witness to a rich history. As you stroll through the town centre, you will inevitably pass by the majestic Saint-Pierre Cathedral, a striking Gothic monument that dominates this former episcopal city. Hop aboard the little tourist train and enjoy a guided tour! You are sure to come across the most famous Gascon characters: D’Artagnan and his musketeers, whose bronze statues stand at the foot of the cathedral. You can also stroll through the cloister of Condom, adjoining the cathedral with its impressive vaults. The centre of Condom is also home to many mansions dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. As a port town, Condom’s commercial port on the banks of the Baïse, dating from the 18th century, has contributed greatly to the town’s economic development. Today, the river, once known as the silver river, is still navigable. For walking enthusiasts, there are many trails accessible from Condom: St-Jacques de Compostelle and the Voie Verte de l’Armagnac (also accessible by bicycle, 500 metres from the campsite).
Fortified village of Larressingle
This fortified village, still protected by ramparts, has survived wars but is now being revived thanks to meticulous restoration work. Listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, immerse yourself in the history of Gascony and stroll through the heart of the village. You will see the 13th-century castle and church, as well as medieval houses set in a typical natural environment surrounded by vineyards.
Gauge lake
Enjoy a family outing in nature, just a short walk from the campsite (13 minutes on foot)! Gauge Island, located between the Gauge lock and canal and the Baïse River, its waterfall and mill, is a preserved natural area home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, which you can discover through the information panels. There is so much to see! This vast green space is also a place where there are many outdoor sports activities: fishing, canoeing, mini golf, fitness trail, table tennis, etc. Enough to keep you busy all day long.
Graziac double lock
Built between 1838 and 1850, the double lock at Graziac overlooks the Baïse River. Its impressive architecture, combining various construction materials, is all the more remarkable for its size: two 30-metre-long chambers and a 4.5-metre difference in height between the upper and lower parts. Enjoy an experience on the water! As the Baïse is navigable, you can hire boats to explore independently or hop aboard a ‘Gascogne Navigation’ boat and enjoy a guided cruise. Thanks to its large pontoon, you can moor and visit the surrounding area. There is a whole route to discover along the water!
Moussaron windmill
This charming windmill, located a short distance from Condom, has been meticulously restored by two local residents. Perched atop a hill, it offers superb panoramic views of the Pyrenees mountain range and is still in working order today! It is a unique feature in the Gers department.
Baïse Trail and nature walks
Located 100 metres from the campsite. On this historic towpath, enjoy an 11-kilometre route that can be explored on foot, by bike or even on horseback. It connects the ports of Condom and Valence-sur-Baïse, via the double manual lock at Graziac and the Cistercian Abbey of Flaran.
Flaran Abbey
Flaran Abbey (about 10 km from the campsite) is a former Cistercian abbey dating back to 1151, located at the confluence of the Auloue and Baïse rivers, at the foot of a rocky spur on which the bastide town of Valence was founded. Listed as a Historic Monument, it is now one of the best-preserved abbeys in south-western France: its buildings are remarkably well preserved!
